Short Film Competition for Students of Institutions of Higher Learning.
MUFORS Road Reels' is a short film competition open to students of all universities, colleges and institutions of higher learning in Malaysia with the theme 'Attitudes on Roads - A Malaysian Journey.
"MUFORS Road Reels" was a short film competition held from August 2010 to November 2010, opened to students of all universities, colleges and institutions of higher learning in Malaysia with the theme "Attitudes on Roads - A Malaysian Journey".
Objectives of MUFORS Road Reels
- To give students of institutions of higher learning a platform i.e. short films to play their part in changing negative attitudes on Malaysian roads by capturing moments and messages that will reflect attitudes on Malaysian roads and how these attitudes are related to road accidents and deaths.
- To enable students and institutions of higher learning to be part of MUFORS as agents of change in giving road safety advocacy a fresh approach by encouraging people from all walks of life to take ownership of road safety and specify "what my role is in promoting road safety and saving lives".
The competition attracted 264 students from 35 local universities & colleges who produced and submitted 142 short films. Entries were selected by a jury panel for 3 main categories - Short Film/Mini-Documentary, Public Service Announcement (PSA) and Short Animation. Winners from each category received RM10,000.00 cash prize, trophies and certificates. Universities of student winners also received cash prizes. Prizes for Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Script, the Jury Award and the People's Choice Award categories were also awarded.
A MUFORS Road Reels Gala Night was held on 28th January 2010 to announce and present prizes to the winners as well as to screen the winning entries. Present at the Gala Night were director-general of the Malaysian Highway Authority Datuk Ismail Md Salleh, chairman of PLUS Expressway Tan Sri Mohd Sheriff Mohd Kassim, MUFORS ambassador Nabil Jan-Al Jeffri, local celebrities and students who participated in the competition.
